Restaurants. They provide us with nourishment and comfort. Farm and Flannel is starting up a new series called The Places That Feed Us, documenting all the fine eating establishments around the country.
This new series will kickstart with a local BBQ restaurant in the greater Richmond, VA area, The Original Ronnie’s BBQ.
Ronnie’s BBQ is a local gem, located where New Market and Varina road meet. This Richmond based restaurant, has a very unique atmosphere.
Only opened from noon to seven, this roadside BBQ restaurant has been serving the greater Richmond area for the last seven years.
Local Food Made Well
What I first noticed about Ronnie’s, is that it is a local restaurant with food that is made with love that has been perfected over time. It’s not one of those restaurants, cutting corners with the small things.
I ordered the BBQ sampler which included: chopped BBQ pork, ribs, brisket, chicken, a roll, a bun, and several helpings of their signature BBQ sauce. I also ordered a small apple cobbler as well.
Ronnie’s had a very unique style and taste to their BBQ sauce. It was almost like a spicy ketchup. It didn’t seem to be vinegar based. I quite enjoyed the aspect of it being different to other barbecue experiences.
Family Run
Run by the Logan family, everyone has a role. When I was there I could see the family members making my food while I waited in the drive through.
It made the whole experience more enjoyable to know that an entire family was crafting my meal. Everything had its own unique taste and texture.
If you are looking to feed your next family gathering, or cater that graduation party, Ronnie’s BBQ has got everything you need!
