Looking for some fun activities this fall?
Fall time is our favorite here at Farm and Flannel. In fact, it was right around now when we first started our brand a few years ago. It could be the cool weather, maybe a trip to the pumpkin patch, spooky nights, or just the abundance of pumpkin spice that get you excited’ whatever the case, there’s something for everyone.
The Beautiful Scenery
The leaves change and things start to brighten up. Fall is like a free trip to nature’s art museum for several months. The scenery can be something out of a fairy tale at times. Places like the Berkshires in western Massachusetts is one example. Take a trip outside! You’ll thank us later!
Go Hiking
Following our last tip, a good way to see the beautiful scenery, is by hiking. The Blue Ridge Mountains for example, is a great place to hike during the fall. It’s a great way to get exercise and spend time in the outdoors with friends. So, grab your hiking boots and camera, and get ready for a splendid time!
Go Biking
A nice bike ride in the cool weather is a fun activity. Even if you live in the city like our founder currently does, you can still found good nature trails to ride on. It’s a quicker way to see the scenery by riding through it!
Hayride
There’s just something about a hayride during October. It’s something for the whole family to enjoy. Usually nestled within a pumpkin patch or haunted house tour, a hayride is a great way to enjoy the fall.
Pumpkin Patch
A day at the pumpkin patch is reminiscent of fall from childhood. It’s so fun to pick out a pumpkin of your own to carve. Pumpkin patches usually contain other businesses like hayrides or a haunted house.
Haunted House Tour
While it may not be my idea of a good time, a haunted house tour is definitely something that people enjoy during the fall season. Again, usually nestled amongst a pumpkin patch or hayride business; sometimes a berry farm, haunted houses are an exciting way to get ready for the spooky season!
Apple Picking
One of our favorite fall activities would be apple picking. A trip to the orchard is a great way to experience a new activity while enjoying the outdoors. A lot of great orchards are nestled in the mountains where you can appreciate great views and scenery. Sometimes these orchards have their own country store or bakery attached to it. Personally, apple picking is one of my favorite fall activities!
Hunting
This might be an activity that only appeals to some. However, hunting is a grand adventure into the great outdoors. Being outside within nature, seeing how the animals live and operate is a beautiful thing. It’s also a great way to learn how to provide food for your family. Who knows? You might be the one that has something to contribute this Thanksgiving!
Trick or Treating
Now I know that this only counts for one night of the season. Yet, it is one of the most exciting events for families to go trick or treating. Plus, you get to dress up as your favorite character, AND get candy. It’s a win win!
Fall Festival
Perhaps trick or treating isn’t your style? Fall festivals are another great way to celebrate the fall/spooky season. It’s fun for the whole family and safe for kids. Usually held either in or outdoors at churches and parks, a good fall festival is a great way to enjoy the season!
Winery Tour
A nice, relaxing trip to a winery is a fun fall activity for some. It combines a love of fine taste, and the outdoors together. A lot of wineries are usually nestled in the mountains like some apple orchards and breweries. For example, their are several wineries in Charlottesville, VA, where some are among the mountains. It makes for great scenery and a pleasant vibe.
Weekend Getaway
There’s nothing like a weekend getaway to a small town. Places like Harper’s Ferry or Gatlinburg, TN bring out cozy small town fall vibes.
It can be a fun way to explore something new and dress up. New places being new opportunities and experiences.
Brewery Trip
A trip to a brewery is another activity that can be fun in the fall. Breweries tend to produce seasonal ales and beers with different flavors in the fall, then any other season. If you are located in Virginia, check out our other article on breweries.
Conclusion
This gives you a glimpse of all the possible things one can do this fall. Hope you have fun this special season!
