BBQ. Quite possibly the most quintessential American meal. You’ve got all types of styles and options. Nestled in Scott’s Addition area of Richmond, Virginia, ZZQ Texas Craft Barbeque is one of a kind. Everything about this place is original, right down to the concept of its business model.
First Come, First Served
ZZQ’s business model is first come, first served. Essentially stating that once they run out of food for the day, that’s it! Here’s a view of their menu, here.
I had a chance to visit for the first time today. Right from the start, the vibe of the place is what you want for a modern, BBQ restaurant. It’s cool, clean environment with its use of a metal exterior, provides customers a modern, fast casual dining experience. It differs from previous experiences, of a dirty wood cabin like atmosphere where pork is cooked.
Fun Dining Experience
When you walk in, to your left is a black and white “storyboard” so to speak. It is a collage of pictures of the business and its memories. Further down the line, you get the menu. A lot of the meat is sold by the pound. Personally, I went with the pulled pork sandwich. The thing that stands out about this restaurant is it’s simplicity. The menu isn’t too big or two small.
Like many fast-casual restaurants, it operates much like a sandwich shop where you go down the line and are questioned on what you would like.
When you get down to the cashier, in a glass case there are samples of your dessert choices. I chose a fountain drink for my beverage, which was a smart choice, because they have their own house made teas and lemonade, as well as Stubborn Sodas. This gives the BBQ brand their own style, instead of giving the customer the same old beverage choices.
Cleanliness is Key
Another cool feature about this establishment is their handwashing station. It’s a staple that every BBQ restaurant should have! It’s located in the back near the bathrooms; a double sink under a neon sign.
So there you have it! One of the best BBQ restaurants on the East Coast is nestled right here in Richmond, Virginia. So, if you’re looking for a small business to try, look no further than ZZQ Texas Craft Barbeque.
